As a small community temple one of the goals of SWZC is to support the expression of wisdom and compassion in the context of work, family life, and the other responsibilities that make up our shared daily lives.

The center supports a residential training program, as well as a regional commuter sangha in the greater San Diego-Tijuana border region. Formal practice at SWZC centers on four aspects: zazen, council practice, studying with a teacher, and service through social action and community involvement.

New to Meditation?

We offer many opportunities to introduce you to Zen Meditation Practice.

Every Sunday we run an introduction to meditation class (zazen) which covers some history, zazen posture and ways to integrate meditation in your every day life.

We offer individual meetings with a zen teacher, in which you can discuss your practice and zazen experiences.

Throughout the year we offer various events, often held on weekends. These events focus on the various practices used at Sweetwater. We have sesshins (silent retreats) almost every month of the year, individuals are encouraged to explore these practices and participate as much as their schedule allows.

Volunteer Opportunities

Sweetwater’s mission is to provide a refuge for all those interested in awakening and community engagement.
